And if you have not what are your reasons for not doing so?

I haven't but a friend of mine did sort of and almost paid for it with his life. He saw two young men (teenagers it turns out) who were experiencing car trouble. He stopped to see if they needed help. They as is turned out had escaped from a juvenile detention facility two states away. While he was looking at the car that they had stolen, one of them climbed into his truck to steal it. He honked the horn for his friend to climb in and upon doing so saw the sunvisor had his FOP membership card attached. The kid in the car motioned for the other kid to get in on the driver side while he began to move over. Once moved over he opened the glove compartment and found the good samaritan's service revolver. He pulled it out as the other kid got into the car to drive. The good samaritan approached until the gun was pointing at him. The first kid got out and started to direct the good samaritan toward a ravine while pointing the gun at him. As they started down the hillside the other kid came running saying he couldn't drive the car because it had a standard transmission. Since neither of the young men knew how to drive the car they marched the good samaritan back into the truck and told him to drive them on into the city. They story ended okay because eventually the cop/good samaritan was able to cause a diversion and outsmart the criminals and exact an escape. The kids were picked up later after stealing another car (w/an automatic transmission). So that is the reason I would never pick up a hitchhiker. I know its a long story but it needed to be told to anyone who thought it might be okay to pick up a stranger.

I never have, heard to many bad stories about doing that, my Dad used to when I was young, only when He drove his truck, nothing ever happened cuz most of the hitch hikers were old men and they rode in the back.

I've never picked up a hitch hiker. Why? I enjoy living life, not ready to die yet.

I used to pick them up all the time, plus I used to hitchhike myself all over the place. I only had one incident happen in the time I hitch hiked. But I don't think that guy will ever try to do to others what he tried to do to me. (I hope he was able to get his car interior clean.)

I've been on both ends of hitch hiking.
I don't see it here in the Midwest.

yes
I drove her way across town out of my way (Houston... that's a long way outta the way), I fed her dinner, and put her up in a hotel
don't ask me why... I felt like being generous for the day
......... I saw her again a few months later in a different city about 150 miles north of where I took her that day. I wanted to stop and say hi, but decided it wouldn't be wise.

I did when I was young & dumb and had a friend in the car already - but I wouldn't any more.

It was chancy behavior back then, and really risky now!
