What?! I think we need more details, like did your membranes rupture early or are you in a high risk category? And how far along are you?

There is more to this than you are sharing, which is entirely your right. You may be better off calling the doc and asking him to explain things further. A quick check into your past questions shows you were worried about having an STD or other infection. You're what, 8 months along now? It's not uncommon for a doctor to tell a woman to avoid sex during pregnancy for a number of reasons. He assumes you have sex for the simple reason that you are pregnant! You are obviously sexually active if you are pregnant. Best of luck.

Huh? That doesnt make sense. Sometimes women who are at risk of miscarriage are told not to have sex during the first trimester and your told not to have sex once your waters break as infection can get to the baby then. But just for no reason? That seems a little strange, I think you should go and ask the doctor to explain why!

i have been unable to have sex since 24 weeks (now 33). i was told that the baby was laying too low and the dr was worried about the rupture of the sac too early. my dr has told me that when i make it to about 35-36 weeks i can resume having sex as long as my water does not break. so i guess it would depend on the dr and his evalution of the specific patient. you could also be leaking fluid and not really be too aware of it, if that is the case then the baby could get an infection. hope this helps.

Only your dr can answer that question! The only reasons I can think that your dr would say that is because either
a) your amniotic sac is partially ruptured
b) your partner has an STD that could spread to your baby.

If neither of those situations are the case, then WHO KNOWS why your dr. said that!

Oh yeah- in a normal, healthy pregnancy there is NO REASON to stop having sex even after dilation starts, unless the sac has ruptured!

Most likely he is telling you this because the penis can introduce bacteria into your body. Sex can make your uterus contract. If your cervix is opening, that's how he can tell when he places his finger in. Or if for some reason your cervix is opening, then he is telling this to you as a precaution.

I dont know, maybe the placenta is close to your cervix. But how long did he say you had to stop. That would suck. I was joking with my husband the other day about us not being able to have sex, cause I dont wanna harm the baby. I would hate for that to happen to me.

Your membranes must have ruptured, once they rupture your baby is exposed to everything from the outside world. I don't think your doctor can tell you had sex unless it is really loose or something.

Well, he may just be telling you as a precaution just in case (he may not actually KNOW), but it does seem like a strange thing for him to tell you.

Did you test positive for strep B? Maybe that has something to do with it (I have no idea). Or has your water broken? I'd ask him your questions and see what he says.

Maybe your dr. is just an ***, and if you're not married he assumes you sleep around and wants to discourage that. If that's the case, I'd find a new dr. asap!

He's a doctor, they have about 15 years of training, and then however many years of experience. He is showing concern for your baby. DO AS HE SAYS.
