I think after a person dies, they are reincarnated to experience every form of life, poor, rich, happy, depressed, ect. and until they experience all of those things, they cannot truely die. But, after they experience all of those things, I believe we just rot in the ground.
depressing huh?

You know, that is a definite question that cannot be answered at all, really.
It is a question that has plagued the human race since the beginning of time.
That would just about be the same as if a person asked when did this all start, and when will it end,...if ever?
My grandmother once told me that GOD had no beginning and has no end.
Us being human are so used to everything having a beginning and an end that this concept is very hard for us to comprehend.
Same goes for the question of how far up does the sky really go, or how deep is the ocean???
I have and always will fear death because it is inevitable.
I find myself to be a control freak, and that is the one thing that I have absolutely no control of whatsoever! :-(
Unfortunately, we ALL must succumb to deaths wicked and cruel certainty.
I have kinda-sorta accepted the fact that I must die one day, but I can only have the HOPE and FAITH that there is life after death, because right now, whether life for me is good or bad...,LIFE is all I know, and if it were up to me,...I would like to keep on living forever!!!
...if THAT were a possibility.
I send my condolences about your Dad, and may you have peace.
SmoocheS! ;)

I believe that when you die, that's it. No afterlife. No reincarnation. IMHO, one thing that is wrong with Western culture, and U.S. culture in particular, is the fear of death. People cannot accept that death is a part of Life (Life in the grand, overall sense, not in the individual sense). Look at what happened with Terry Schaivo. People refused to let her go because they are so afraid of death. It was like, if they could keep her in the world of the living, they could deny that her fate could be theirs. It's frightening to see someone in a state like Terry Schaivo and think that there is nothing in there - that whatever made that person real and alive is gone, and there is nothing there to see and hear the outside world. We try to deny it as long as possible.
Death will happen to all of us. Death is nothing to be afraid of. Death is a natural part of the cycle of Life. What I fear is the process of dying. I don't fear Death.
As for your experience, I believe it was just an olfactory halucination brought on by a dream and your love for your father - even if you don't remember that you were dreaming.

Believe me, this Yahoo Answers board is not the place to go for this type of information. You have some atheists here that are more than a little insensitive. This is not the first time i've seen someone come on the board after losing a loved one, asking if there is life after death, and someone comes on saying something like, no, we just rot.
Everyobody's got there own opinion. Do you want real answers or do you want opinions? If you want real answers, I suggest you do some research into NDE- Near Death Experiences and judge for yourself if you think there is life after death

Of course. It would be depressing to think that this is the only chance we have at life. Even more depressing is dealing with wether someone you love has gone to heaven or hell.
You are probably right about your dad coming to say hey

The smell was in our imagination, it's quite common. All living things on this earth, plants, animals, fish, bugs, everything ends up the same. We return to nature, from which we came.

My faith tells me that there is more. Additionally TV programs and magazine articles have said things similar to what you have written here.
So many people dispute faith, near-death experiences, and happenings such as the one you have described--but I'm standing by what I believe to be true.

Read Riverworld (I think by Farmer) and get a new perspective of the afterlife. Dont be contained in your mind by religious dogma. Those people have no idea either
