I personally have never heard of a boy named Holly. I think they would get picked on a lot more, just like there are boys named Ashley. Maybe if you wanted to name your son Holly, you could go with an alternative spelling such as Holley.

In the past - probably. Present day? Not really. Then again, there are people who name their children, Pirate, PilotInspektor (actually how it is spelled), Moxie and Banjo. Of course, these people are actors and don't have a firm grasp reality.
Personally, I do not think Holly is a good name for a boy. Sorry. What about Ollie?

I think that is an old name that was used for boys at first, like Carol and Ashley and Clare. But the names are used for girls so much now that it is very uncommon to hear them for boys any longer. I think you would be better off going with a name more commonly accepted as a boys name.

Sure it's acceptable, but I must be honest, I've never met a boy or man named Holly.

No, but if you watched Northern Exposure, there was a character named Holling; this name worked for him. He was the owner of a bar, which I think played well with the slightly femine ring to his name. Ironic. Maybe your Holly will turn out to be a biker and balance out his femine name. It seems like a lot of work throughout life though.

well, my name is Holly, but I am a female. I never really considered it for a boys name, but I don't know if all these other people are right or not. I know guys named Kim, Terry, Loren, Cat, Ebony, Chris, and Pat. All of them are successful guys and they all use their real names, so If it's a name you just really feel is right, then go ahead. It's not the name that makes the person after all, right?

Nope. Some names can be for either sex, but Nope, Holly is not one of them! The poor boy will be picked on. :(

Yes, if it's a family name or something. Maybe you could spell it different? Hollee, Holi, Holie. Or use it as the middle name when naming my 1st son we wanted to honer my grandma Jane, his name is Conner Jayn. We used Jane just changed the spelling and used it as a middle name.
