total bases touched, or add singles, doubles, triples and HR / AB.

If you do just total bases, that would include walks and bases reached by other's hits, and that doesn't sound like slugging to me.

Total bases acquired by Hits divided by At Bats.

If a player has 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple, 1 Home Run in 20 At Bats his slugging percentage is .500 but his Batting Average is .200

If a player has 4 singles and 2 doubles in 20 At Bats his slugging percentage is .400 but his Batting Average is .300

Which would you rather have? Higher SLG but lower BA or lower SLG but higher BA?

Only hits count.

SLG == (total bases) / (at-bats)

Total bases == singles + 2*doubles + 3*triples + 4*homers;

but, since singles data isn't usually available, this gives the same result:

TB == hits + doubles + 2*triples + 3*HR

Total Bases divided by number of At-Bats.
