I tired taking tylenol, but it doesn't help. Should I go in and get checked.

I had that problem also. Found tylenol and caffeine helped to fend them off before they got too bad. The trick is getting that in as soon as you find one coming on - or basically I had to go home into a dark and silent room as soon as I could.

My doc offerred to prescribe something, but I figured the caffeine would be better/safer than an extra med.

Good luck & hang in there. They're miserable. And the tylenol thing below is wrong.

I have the same problem...every time i would tell the doctor, she wiuld say take tylenol...even when I told her that it did not help. I decided to read some medical journals to find out if there were anything that I could take. The medical journals all stated that taking ibuprofen was okay during pregnancy up until 32 weeks (even though your doctor probably told you that you cannot take it). When I have a migraine, I take 2 tylenol, 2 ibuprofen with a class of soda (the caffeine helps open up the blood vessels in your brain). It takes about 30 minutes to an hour for the headache to go away...but it is much better than going through the excrutiating pain of a migraine!

Here are a couple of pages that may help:

--13 weeks pregnant (with migraines about 1-2 times per week)

I've actually had horrible migraines throughout my pregnancy. The tylenol didn't help me at all either so, my doctor tried midrin and tylenol 3. The midrin in a non-narcotic and often prescribed for ppl with migraines. For me it did nothing whatsoever. The tylenol 3 has an increase in the medication plus codeine. It actually helped me the most, but you need to be careful as to how much you take. Definitely talk to your doctor. There are are much better ways to deal with it than to suffer through it.
And the women who are telling you tylenol is not safe have no idea what they are talking about. All doctors will tell you to try tylenol and tylenol 3 is the most highly prescribed medication during pregnancy for migraines. Caffeine is known to help with headaches, too, and is not at all dangerous. Most ppl say to try half a can so, I bought the small half sized cans and drink those when I start getting a headache. I don't know if it really works, but it does seem to help.

First I want to say sorry for the ignorance of the ladies on here telling you not to take Tylenol. It is perfectly safe for pregnancy, and is the ONLY over the counter pain reducer that is suggested. You're fine taking it, it helped me a bit. I found I did better with the 8 hour Tylenol. I also would drink a regular soda (like a Coke or Pepsi) when I took the Tylenol to kind of help it "kick in". The nurse at my doctor's office is the one who suggested I try that. I talked to my doctor after about the caffiene and he said that caffiene in moderation during pregnancy is fine, I just wouldn't go overboard. A soda here and there to help your migraine is FINE!!! (Although I will say it was off limits for me while TTC). Other than that, I tried aroma therapy, and taking a nap in a pitch black room. Hopefully yours will subside. I go through good periods and bad, but the 8 hour tylenol has worked. I really hope it gets better for you, I feel for you!!! Best of luck with your pregnancy and congratulations on your little one!

That's normal. Some Dr's believe that migrains are actually triggered by hormones, and with your larger doeses of hormones being produced in early pregnancy, this is probably going to be more likely to happen. Luckily, in a couple of weeks, your body will stop producing the hormones and your placenta wil take over that job and you should see less migrains, if not a complete stop in them.

The same thing is just starting to happen to me. I notice that if I keep myself very hydrated they are less frequent and tylenol usually helps me. Express your concerns to your doctor though.

Oh my goodness, do not take tylenol and certainly do not take caffeine! Caffeine is one of the things that your doctor will warn you about taking especially early on in your pregnancy. I am going to be 5 months pregnant come tomorrow and I found that this always helps

warm bath
hot or cold compress
naps
smelling lemon (yes not only does it help for morning sickness, but it helps me with headaches too)
lemon ginger tea (made from ginger root and fresh lemons)

DON'T TAKE TYLENOL! Very bad. If you can try not to take anything. Pregnant women are not suppose to take tylenol at all. Try laying down for a nap when you get migraines, that helps me.
But yes go get checked out, and ASK your Dr. what you can take.

migraines are normal in early pregnancy due to the sudden rise in bloodflow. talk to your doc so you can get a Rx or it may be something more serious
