Use word association. For example, if you're trying to remember state capitals. Kentucky - Frankfort. Frank lives at Fort Knox, Ky. When my daughter was in elementary school, she made up a story involving all the countries in South America. She remembered every country on the test.

I memorize numbers by the pattern they make on a phone keypad. I can only recall the numer by thinking of "dialing" them on a phone keypad.
