Nah. Common part of the language. Too late to trademark it. A good study, I'm told is the word "aspirin", which is a common term in the U.S. but is trademarked in many other countries, notably Canada, where the common term has to be acetylsalicylic acid . Got into common vocabulary here before Bayer could grab the trademark.

To protect a business name within your industry, you would apply for a trademark.

Trademarks can be names of products or services, logos, slogans, packaging and even sounds and smells. In essence, a trademark can be almost anything that is used to identify a particular product or service. Registering a trademark grants the owner exclusive rights to the mark within the specified industry.

So it's not possible to have blanket protection to a name, logo, slogan, etc. (although there are different rules for famous trademarks). The name is filed for a trademark in connection with goods and/or services.

Let's say you had comprehensive research conducted on that term for a clothing line & it's clear. You could then file for a trademark for the name to be used in connection with a clothing line. That means if another party wanted to use and/or trademark the term for anything NOT related to clothing, it'd be okay.

Of course, each situation varies from the next so if you're talking about something specific it's best to contact a trademark attorney or a private search company.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!
