a true artist is someone who can take a scene, person, event, anything, and portray it exactly, weather with words, paint, marble or even photography, and make it more beautiful.

If you think you are, you are. I mean seriously think you are. Art is something personal that someone created so it can't be defined so easily. I mean have you seen some of the things they call art (i.e. the modern sculptures). I certainly don't get it, but the artist did and I'm sure a few others do too.

To me, a true artist is simply someone who writes, draws or just does whatever he/she does and lets it all come from his/her heart. Nothing more is needed. You dont have to be famous, you could even be just a closet-artist...but if you let your creativity come from your heart and not tone it away to fit someone else´s perspective on whats good and whats not good...that makes you a true artist, in my opinion anyway. :)

someone who is able to express their feelings through their art... a good artist will make you feel the way they are feeling when you look at their piece

Dave Mustaine is an example, great music with great lyrical content. The songs have a meaning other than mindless "My car", "My ho's", "My clothes" rants.
