I've been thinking alot about this as well. I was a HUGE fan of the Saturday Morning Shazaam/Isis Hour. They are also remaking 'Isis' for a release later this year!
But, it will take 2 actors to play Shazam, a teenager to play 'Billy Batson' who says SHAZAM! and then turns into the 30 year old 'Captain Marvel'. And they will need to cast someone older to play Billy's Mentor and this actor must have great chemistry with both actors playing 'Billy/Captain M'.
I'll have to think about this casting for a while though before I could really decide. As I was a die hard fan who never missed an episode and to this day I will one day own that 'Winnebego' Billy and his Mentor traveled in. So here is my cast, just off the top of my head, this is not my 'set in stone' cast but a starting cast to work on.
For
Billy Batson - The obvious choice this week would be Shia LaBeouf or even Brady Corbet (Thunderbirds, Mysterious Skin, Thirteen).
As for 'Captain Marvel' (who was originally written in the comics after the dad on 'My 3 Sons' (why? who knows?LOL) I'm going for someone say like maybe 'The Rock'. Since the Rock is slightly dark skin AND his sometimes collaborator ISIS is from Egypt, I just think the two of them would go well together, assuming they'll get someone of Egyptian quality to play ISIS and assuming she may join him in a sequel. 'Captain Marvel' doesn't have to talk much, just has to kick *** and The Rock is great at those things! My only problem with it being The Rock, is I don't want to think about 'The Rock' when I see this movie, I want to think about 'Captain Marvel', so that may hurt his chances. So now I'm quickly trying to come up with at least one other actor I could see being the braun here. Let's see... What about.... Man, I just don't know at this time, maybe some unknown. As for who would play the older Mentor, I'm all for James Earl Jones or David Carradine (kung fu) or the great underrated and now older, Michael Pare' (eddie and the cruisers/streets of fire fame). But my mind is not totally set on this cast, I'm very open to more creative suggestions. :-) God, I can't wait!

...it's gotta be someone who can readily project that goody-goody, jutted square-jawed, muscle-bound image...almost an exaggerated sense of the Superman character.
The film is, more or less, still in the writing stage, as exhibited in the attached webpage.
...perhaps there might be a surprise announcement in July, here in San Diego, at the internationally-sponsored ComicCon; ya never know...
...and the (frustrated and impatient) waiting continues!!!
ADDED COMMENT: ...just checked out the pics on IMDB, for this Brandon Molale everyone's been hyped about; gotta say, he definately fits the facial profile needed for ol' Cap!!!
..."Shazam" film producers out there, listen up!!!!!

The Rock is tied up in Get Smart - I like the Molale guy - he plays a good tough guy and he's like 6'4 or 5 - a REAL super hero!!
