You ever owned a gun?

Question

I have had a couple of air pistols as a kid, which i don't consider a proper firearm and was used for target practise.

If you have ever owned a gun, what gun did you own and why did/do you own it?

SLR rifle although I didn't own it It was on loan from the Ministry of Defence when I was in the forces.

I have never owned a gun and never want to. You own a car for getting from A-B a television for watching programmes and a gun for..............shooting people. Not something I want to do really.

The UK had a couple of shootings that made the news. The answer was to confiscate and destroy all handguns. The result? No more shootings. In the US we have just had the worst shooting ever and the response? Arm more people!!!!!!! A gun has never killed a person, people kill people and Americans are so stupid that they think that gun ownership makes sense! The man that killed all these people legally owned the weapons he used. I know one American that owns 20 guns! Why? If his house is burgled that is 20 guns on the street in the hands of anyone. To use an American term. When will they wake up and smell the coffee?

Sure, I own several ranging from small caliber handguns to large caliber rifles.

I very much enjoy target shooting, I hunt (and believe the practice to be more healthy and environmentally sound than supporting the methane farting, growth hormone injected commercial beef and poultry industry. But that's another topic...), and have no problem with using whatever force is necessary in the defense of myself and my family.

That being said, as one who, like the *vast* majority of gun owners, uses them for legitimate sporting, defense, and collecting purposes and has never used a firearm to commit any act of violence against another human being, exactly what business is it of yours (or anyone else) if I own a gun, what type I own, and why I own it?

Yes I own a gun. (air pistol) A Hammerli AP40

I shoot targets only as part of a club and I was a bronze medallist in The Scottish postal league.

Shooting is now very stigmatised and I seldom admit to taking part as a sport.

I never shoot anything alive and never have done. I'm as peace loving and kind as you could wish for and as boring as they come.
So not your typical image of a gun owner I should imagine!

I had an air pistol as a kid, and under dad's supervision used it for target practice. Later in life, I bought a powerful air rifle, but didn't find much use for it.
Why do you want a gun?

I own 6. One is for big game hunting, 1 is for bird hunting, 1 is for target, and small game, 3 I don't really use anymore because they were mine when i was a kid. I am going to get a pistol this summer for defense.

had a couple of air guns..

then when I turned 18 I bought an old 12 gauge shotgun and I also have a semi-auto 22 long rifle

all of these were bought for target and blowing away random objects :)

No. I've rented and used them at the range, and once shot a borrowed one at targets on the owner's private property. Generally like a 22 semi. I also took an NRA safety class and got my pistol permit just for kicks.

I was mugged once and a friend of mine wanted to buy me a gun. I looked into it but then I figured, if a mugger has a gun and I have a gun, what happens next? I doubt I'll go all "Die Hard" on him and we'd probably both end up getting shot. Handguns don't make anyone any safer, you have a 10 times better chance of shooting a loved one than a burglar in your home.

Yes i own many weapons i use them to hunt every year for
deer and bear i have been using my weapons for 30 years
list weapons i do have 382 lever action 16 10 12 shotguns
32 lever action 30-30 bolt action 303 bolt action i don't
like handguns and where i live they would useless .

yes, a blank firing pistol but it also fired CS and pepper spray, and firecrackers as well, came from France...legal to own here in Spain.

I also learned to shoot as a youngster as Pa was a Firearms instructor in the army, so learned all the safety rules and how to strip it down and clean it, probably couldn't do it now though, that was a long time ago
