We're going to Disneyland Paris soon and I'm worried that another earthquake could squash flat the channell tunnel while we are in it.

My opinion, nothing on the earth is earthquake proof.

The channel tunnel was designed to be earthquake-proof - up to a certain limit of course. We now know that it is OK up to 4.3 on the Richter scale, don't we? :-) I think the chance of being squashed flat by an earthquake in the tunnel is so low that you needn't even think about it - you're much more likely to be killed in a road accident on your way there. In any case, as we have just had an earthquake in that area, the chance of another one of a similar magnitude is virtually zero.

Really, "dreams", you should give the designers of the tunnel a little more credit - they didn't get where they are today (actually, mostly retired) by being stupid!

What the first answerer said, I trust as well. also on condition that I stay in New Zealand, we've had extremely some earthquakes, noticeably very last 12 months i have said, and think ofyou've got maximum in all possibility heard about the large earthquake down in Christchurch interior the South Island. I stay interior the North Island, so fortuitously that did not influence me.

I agree that nothing is earth quake free and the odds of you being in that tunnel at the exact time is astronomical. Anyways, they claim it can withstand earthquakes due to the design of the tunnel. The curvature is similar to an arch which can withhold more pressure and keep itself from collapsing in.

There is nothing that is totally earthquake proof . If a 6.0 doesn't get it then a 7.0 will.

'Unlikely' however we are all born to die, leaving your front door or going into your kitchen has risks attached.

'Safe' is a term more associated with probability, if there was any significant danger to the public it would be closed so chill out and enjoy your holiday.
