Why is there no Men's studies under the Social Science category? Men's roles have changed but society seems to neglect this and the issues that Men face. A few examples...
1. Men facing challenges as single parents
2. Discrimination of Men through various government agencies
3. Why is there no help for Men who are victims of violence through spousal abuse?

Interesting points. I think the more we cater to specific cultures, the more we neglect the rest which will always result in separating people rather than uniting them. There needs to be either more equality.

Or more embracing of individuals and less pride where it does not matter. We are all humans and should be able to sympathize with anyone on any level and be educated enough to understand to the best of our abilities without having to seek similar people for prosperity and reject the difference as ignorant.

If you are only asking why there is no category, "Men's Studies," under social science in Yahoo Answers, then perhaps you might ask Yahoo to include that.

In the academic world there are programs of "Men's Studies." While the field has been growing slowly, it has grown. To find some books in the field as well as other information try this link: http://mensbiblio.xyonline.net/

Basically, though, I think you are asking a question about social help. Organizations tend to help where the need is largest. Though some men do have the problems you mention they are often silent about it. The percentage of men who face discrimination based on gender or sex and those who are victims of spousal abuse is so much smaller than the percentage of women who face these problems, that this greater need leads to the development of organizations (and growth of funds) to serve them first. There are also many who just don't believe these problems occur to men. If you are in a big city you might find some help. Look for online help as well. Try some Google searches on the subjects of help for men, men's studies, husband abuse, and men as single parents. Find a good organization for men like yourself, join, and participate. Good luck.

I believe the main reason there are no "Men's Studies" is because Women's Studies evolved out of centuries of intolerance to the cultural and social achievements of women. The successes of men have never been ignored, therefor there is not need for a "Men's Studies" today. Eventually, we will feel the need to dissect the history and psychology of men.

I say this as a teen father, too. I have been discriminated against because I had a child at such a young age and wish there was more literature available that discusses similar experiences. My daughter's mother was also sexually assaulted some time ago and there was no help provided for the men who need to help the female victims of such assaults move on. It was very unfortunate.

There are studies but they are very low key because they are still new and not yet accepted in today's world. For these type of test to be life changing you would have to let go of the male ego and pride. most men will never come forward to get the numbers up as a sign of weakness.

For the same reason you don't see it in academics. An honest Men's Studies program would challenge and contradict the Women's Studies programs.

It's the same reason there are no "White Pride" days.
Society is biased and doesn't consider the shift of the tides when equality is attempted. There's always an over-shoot.
Swing a pendulum, what happens? It swings too far first and then tries again to return to a static position.

Because most other fields of study have been controlled by a male hegemony. Women's studies is a direct reaction to this. The subjects that you bring up i think are problems facing modern men, based in a legislative reaction against the long standing male hegemony.

There are no Men's studies because it is a scientific fact that Men peak out at age 18 and it is all downhill from there. What's to study?
