I have 768 MB of RAM in my computer. But when I run system information, I found that although I have that amount of memory, the 'available physical memory' is just around 450 MB. What does that mean? Have you come across this?

Ctrl-Alt-Del to open Task Manager. Under Processes tab you will see what are currently using system RAM. If you have onboard graphics, it also shares system RAM.

450Mb available RAM is still quite big for most applications.

You may have 768MB RAM in your system, but the key word here is "available" memory. Remember your pc is using some. Whats left is "available".

Some integrated graphics cards also use system ram. Since that ram is unavailable it isn't accounted for in the system info.
