I almost always preface my answers with the fact that I am over 55, so it gives a different flavor to my answers. Yes is my answer, or if they seem shy, just a nice warm smile. I think this is EXACTLY WHAT OUR WORLD IS MISSING. But I also think people are becoming so afraid of people, and because I've seen several generations, when I was a kid, the businesses weren't corporate retail and they were mom and pop businesses and were not run by greed, but by customer service because it was their bread and butter and people really relied on people. But now for you younger people, everyone is trying to get something from you from telemarketers to retail corporations. Credit cards really rip you off and wages are lower in comparison to the cost of a house. So especially people in my generation should "warm things up with a smile and hi" so young people do it to, but talking on cell phones breaks down society when you talk on it while waiting in line or waiting at all, It helps the community to visit with your neighbor in line. We are becoming an alienated from each other society and I'm glad I'm closer to death than birth., I don't like it.

everyday...
If i take the bus, train or walk the dog.
I do or say nice things...
for example, i was on my way to the movies last friday,
and i wasn't late. A car stalled in the middle of the intersection. I pulled over, parked my car, stopped the traffic and pushed the car and mother of two to the side.
A yellow porche drove up beside me... and cursed me! for taking so long for pushing the vehical. I smiled and flipped the bird... knowing... only if he knew... the happier people behind him wouldn't have had to wait much longer in traffic.
Not to mention... the kids in the back seat of the car, might just do the same thing one day? (I remember when i was younger, when people didn't hesitate to help, today, people don't hesitate to honk their horn!)

I always smile and say hello whether I am smiled at or not. Some will acknowledge me and some walk on by. I always try to be courteous to the store clerks especially because of having to deal with cranky hateful people. Some look pretty down at the time, and after talking to them, they are smiling when I leave.

The whole point is to make someone's day that much better. So even though they do not reply nicely, they appreciate it deep down. Maybe you should just start with smiling at 5 people.

Usually "Hello" or "How are you ?" nothing beyond that if there is no response.

I have co-workers who think they are better, and those are the ones I greet with the warmest regard, and I continue until they have no choice but to say hello (or something).
It entertains me to go very direct, and leave them no room except if they want to openly disregard my existence

i would even if they didn't respond. It always feels good to compliment others. I think I'll try 5 a day sometime. Add up my karma points.

I think I do anyway. I worked retail and I had to speak to everyone. I still do it when I pass someone in the grocery store.

It depends, it would be a very nice thing to do. But I find that often when i am polite to people in this city (Dallas) they act weird or tick me off, and I end up regretting it.
