First of all 1987 is really not that long ago. You have a 100 Peso coin (yes, they use a dollar sign, but in Mexico it means Peso). The man on the reverse is Venustiano Carranza with $100 to his right. The obverse has the eagle with the snake in the mouth (not ribbon), which is the national symbol of Mexico. It is made out of aluminum-bronze so it has that bronze color, which is close to a gold color. Your coin is KM# 493 and had a mintage around 165,000,000. As for value these coins can be found in coin dealers world coin boxes for .10 to .25. These coin were demonetized in the monetary reform of 1992. They are not legal tender in Mexico anymore.

you need to take this in to a coin collectors shop. most shop owners will appraise it while you wait. in fact, most coin collector shop owners will tell you more than you ever needed to know.

also, keep in mind, the 'value' is going to be different from what you can expect to sell it for. most of the time the easiest was to sell a collectable coin is to a shop owner, not a collector. and they are going to buy it for about 25% of what they think they can sell it for. since these items are pure collectables the value is actually a total guess, not a reality.

another source - the library. Kraus publications makes a yearly coin value book that you can use to look up the coin you have.

good luck
