I was totally shocked. Exactly - they need defensive help! -- or a RB. McNabb is injury prone, but damn - they have 2 other QB's. They must see this kid as the future QB of the franchise, and they must really have no faith in McNabb's ability to start or finish the season.

They aren't completely crazy. McNabb has had a hard time staying healthy the last few seasons. McNabb only played in 9 games in 2006 and 10 games last season.
He has been in the league for 8 seasons and only played in all 16 games 3 times. So it's safe to say at some point during next season someone other than McNabb will being taking the snaps at QB.

Yeah Kolb would have been there with their second pick. The Eagles screwed up when they traded their first round pick to the Cowboys who turned around and picked up Spencer. Philly could have used him, its not like Kearse doesnt get hurt every year. They also could have taken a WR with that pick. The fact that they took a QB tells me that either they are losing it or McNabb is going on the trading block pretty soon. Maybe they are tired of paying so much money to sit in the hospital. If that is the case they need to start cutting some of their old guys like Kearse and Trotter and began to rebuild, NOW.

It's hard to argue with the Eagles with the success they've had in recent years in the draft, but this surprised the hell outta me. And what message is it sending to Donovan McNabb? Sure Andy Reid said all the right things like "This isn't about Donovan this is about getting value", but they resigned backup A.J. Feely, which was a good move, but then they acquired former starter and top notch backup Kelly Holcomb from Buffalo in the Takeo Spikes trade. Then they draft Kevin Kolb. I could see them taking a quarterback on day two, but taking a QB with what was essentially their first round pick is shocking. They should have taken a defensive end to rotate with the oft-injured Jevon Kearse and the underacheiving Darren Howard (I'm glad the Saints let him go!)

With Donavan McNabb being banged up the last couple of seasons and Philly's choices at back-up being journeymen A.J. Feeley and Kelly Holcomb, I understand the need for a reliable second string quarterback.
But for goodness sake's Kevin Kolb? University of Houston has a track record of producing QB's that put up eye-popping stats in college and then fizzle in the NFL( remember Andre Ware, David Klingler?) Why pick another potential journeymen QB for your second string guy when there some better QB's on the board. This was puzzling to me.

Not only did they draft a QB they reached on this pick, too! Makes you think what is up with McNabb?

it's simple. The Philadelphia Eagles are a business, and they took a business approach. They can pay less money to a QB they drafted in the 2nd round who won't play for at least a year, two, maybe three! It's all about the money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they are.
1. Don't they have like three quarterbacks on their roster already?
2. If they needed QB! Why not pick Beck from BYU or Stanton from Michigan St.

McNabb did not recover well from his injury.
This will be his last season.
Thanks God, it's time for that loser to leave the game.
