Yikes ! I hate it when that happens.. :)

I always apologize, then tell them that was not my intentions.I would also try to explain to them what I meant the first time before I opened my mouth and inserted foot ! :)

I heard of a statistic the other day that states the following; 90% of statements/comments that one hears from others are NOT meant to be insulting.
So, if I say something that offends someone(and I am not trying to offend) , I put it down to the listener.
In other words, if the listener is offended, it's because he wants to be.
Trust me when I say that if I want to offend someone, he will know it.

I offended a former boss and friend once without intending to. I apologized immediately, but I could tell she was upset. I ended up sending her a personal note again expressing my regret that she had misunderstood the intentions of what I had said and I hoped it wouldn't damage our relationship. It took some time (distance) but things are okay now.

It would really depend on" who "you offend. I would definitely say I am sorry , After that give a short but concise answer as to why you did it. Then apologise one more time , then give them time to heal. If they feel that it was sincere enough they will let you know. If they don't then it was never meant to be. You live and learn from your mistakes "don't" do it again .

Heres one example. I needed a tampon from a freind and she gave me a super PLUS! I had no choice, except go shopping o I used it and it was NOT easy getting it in at all and it hurt. So, I cam eout and was like wow, how do you get those in? It hurt me so much. She was quiet and later my hubby said I probably embarrassed her and she thought I was saying she was loose, which she cant be anymore than me in reality. So, I called and said what my husband said and I hopefully smoothed it out by saying my period was really lite and I knew it would hurt when I took it out and the dry cotton would rib, she seemed okay with that answer, but wow, super pluses are way too big.

I try to apologize and hope they understand and accept my apology. If they don't however, I admit that sometimes I will feel annoyed. It might bother me for a little while but I'll try to convince myself that I did what I could and they choose to be offended nonetheless.

I sincerely from the bottom of my heart tell them I did not mean to hurt them. I feel so bad if I offend someone, that I go into overdrive to tell them I didn't mean to hurt them. I'm an honest person, so they usually say I forgive you.

I try to figure out if it was because they wanted to be offended or if I screwed up. If i said something wrong I very humbly say I'm sorry. If they are one of those who just look for people to say something non politically correct, I say oh I'm sorry your such and idiot
