Which can be used to distinguish between alumunium sulphate solution and lead(II) ethanoate solution?

2 hydrochloric acid

If you add HCl, the lead compound will give a white precipitate of lead(II) chloride. The aluminium compound won't do anything.

Pb2+ + 2Cl- -----> PbCl2
