Listen to Kansas' "The Wall".

The path that I have chosen now has led me to a wall
And with each passing day I feel a little more like something dear was lost
It rises now before me, a dark and silent barrier between
All I am and all that I would ever want to be
It's just a travesty, towering, marking off the boundaries my spirit would erase

I can build a wall of bricks and stones as in The Berlin Wall.

I can also tear down a wall as in The Berlin Wall and its meaning will be physical, political and psychological.

I can put up a wall psychologically after I have been abused.

I could let your question drive me up a wall.

I could write a production like "Pink Floyd" about "The Wall" and it would have a wide range of meanings.

wall
that which inhibits and denys progress
it is a blindfold on the mind
built by the mind
in a blind attempt for reason.
all walls can be broken
in time and with reason
but the hardest to break
are those that cannot even be seen.

what do you see?
what do you not see?

Tread the path untrodden to find the path unsaught,
there you will find your wall.

The song (if that is the wall you refer to) can mean many things, but given it is written by musicians, it appears that for reason they can't get past the current level of their art into a realm that is more sublime. In other words, they have hit a wall.

Walls can be abstract or physical. Do we want them or not? Are they protections or prisons? The answer is up to each of us in our own way. To stay within or brave the future and seek the unplundered prairie.
