I really think the media is partly responsible for these killers - because they are giving them what they want ATTENTION - the best thing to do is to not give them any attention. The only reason he mailed that video to NBC was because he wanted attention. They shouldn't have shown that guy's face at all, none of that video should have been aired. Because of the next guy that comes along that does something like this. Giving them attention is like giving them a reward in a twisted sense and they shouldn't be rewarded. Because then someone copies their actions, and then they can go down in history for killing 400 people or whatever, it's like dealing with children, giving them attention makes them worse, not better. So giving the killers attention makes for more killers. Gun Control isn't going to do any good as long as a person can get all this attention. They'll just find another way to find guns or another way of killing lots of people.how do inform the media?

You ask a complex and intelligent question, but there is only one simple answer and that is to hit the big media companies where it hurts...in the wallet. Don't buy the products they advertise (some times a hardship on you). Networks, newspapers, websites and magazines are all in business TO MAKE MONEY. Organize a successful boycott of the advertisers and watch how fast they put pressure on the outlet of choice to tone down the blood, gore and celebrity status of killers.

What you're advocating is the suppression of the media. Its job is to objectively report the facts, and whether you like it or not, a mass killing is most certainly news. It's not "glorifying" anything. It's telling you what happened. Some networks go over the top with the coverage, but as a society, we have a right to be informed. You also have a right to be offended and not watch. But to suggest that society's ills -- or the creation of a mass murderer -- is in any way caused by the media is simply burying your head in the sand. No one is to blame for what happened at Virginia Tech except the shooter himself, which is, of course, what you're talking about. If it's news, we report; if it's not, we don't. Let's not go around trying to limit the First Amendment, because you have a warped sense of reality.

I don't think you can! The live, breathe and make their profit on death and suffering. That means they NEED it to survive.

Their actions make the obvious conclusion even easier to reach.
