No, the answer is not in Wikipedia. And I did some Web searching before coming here. I know where Prince Philip grew up--that's not the question. What language(s) did he grow up speaking? (Maybe his parents spoke to him only in English. That's what I'm wondering about.)

Prince Philip's grandfather was ASKED to be King of Greece and so he took the job when he was living in Belguim. His mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg (Mountbatten in English) was of German descent, as was her Father, King Constantine of Greece. Philip, while growing up had no official last name and was simply known as "Prince Philip, or Philip of Greece." When Princess Alice (Aliki in Greek) married Philips father she was then called Princess Andrew.

Philip grew up speak German (he had 2 brother-in-laws in Hitlers army), French, Greek, English (his Uncle - his mother's brother, Lord Mountbatten) was a favorite of his and later of Prince Charles. I'm sure he probably spoke at least one other, but am not sure what. Around 1921-22 Greece overthrew their Monarchy for the last time. His grandfather was exiled and his father put on trial and later released. His mother, Princess Andrew became a Nun of the Greek Orthodox Church after his death, Philip converted to the Anglican religion.

At the deathbed of King George V, Queen Mary curtseyed in deference to her new Sovereign, her son, King Edward VIII. But Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, never had to curtsey to Prince Philip; he was not King.

Most probably Greek, Russian, French, English, and German.

I don't suspect that his father would let his child go ignorant into a new culture.

Funny how people go on about foreigners, but the royal family are the biggest foreign scroungers there are. Prince Philip was a Greek asylum seeker with relatives from Russia, Germany, Denmark. Before the Queen Mother there wasn't a single British person on throne, and no English before Diana. Queen Victoria got the royal name from her husband's royal line, and her mother was German. Mountbattens changed their name from Battenberg. Not to mention all the foreign scrounging Tories like Boris Johnson's family who changed their last name to Johnson because their real one is Turkish. Kings in WW1 were cousins.
They get us all fighting over nationality, while the few at the top can come from anywhere to be stuck up foreign leeches. Expecting us to die for what only they benefit from. Tories even voted against the NHS, Open University, house of Lords reform and first minimum wage, while they're the biggest supporters of the royal family. Things haven't changed much since we let Normans rule us to look down on anything Anglo-Saxon
