Gun owners, and gun lovers may/not be the same entity.
either may/not kill animals with their guns (there is such a thing
as a collector, skeet/target shooter as well as hunter). It is
rare for "sadistic pleasure" from killing and animal anymore
than a fish. Both are edible/tasty, and legal game that usually
cannot be obtained fresh from the local meat market. Part
of the "hunt" is spending time in the woods, marshes etc
midst natural. Usually when it comes to the urge to killing
humans I hear the greater preference towards strangling.

If you are not a vegetarian you have no room to talk. The meat you are eating comes from animals who are mostly kept in small areas ( don't move and develop muscles), fed chemicals ( make them grow faster, color their meat) and finally terrorized on the way to slaughter ( listening to the screams of those who are ahead of them) The people who kill animals for food, which most hunters do, are at least taking responsibility for what they eat. These animals were living/breeding freely. What they ate was probably healthier ( drug free) and no one kept them is a small box with no light ( Veal) untill they were killed. Do you think the animals that supply you with those styrofoam meat packages you get at the supermarket had a life that was anywhere near as good as the ones killed by hunters? Do you think?

Not sadistic. The aim is to kill quickly and painlessly- which is why we use massive overkill in hunting ammunition (way more power than in military ammunition)
Why hunt? it would be unnecessary- provided we did not mind having a few volves and bears in the city parks. simply because some form of predator is necessary to balance nature- either the bear or the human.
Cowardly? depends what you hunt I presume. Try facing a 250 kilo wild boar with a shotgun, then tell me what you think.
BTW, I hunt because I like the taste of the meat. Are you one of those who sadistically persecute innocent carrots?

No, most think of hunting as a way to harvest food for themselves and their families. My uncle, who has a full time state job and whose wife works, hunts for all the meat his family eats during the year. It happens in my area, and it happens more frequently as you venture north from my county. Many people ignore this and forget that some people rely on hunting as a vital source of meat.
No one I know of gets sadistic pleasure from killing animals, and no one I know wants to kill humans. Most of the people in my area hunt because they like being out in the woods and they like the taste of wild game. When it comes to hunting the fun stops when you pull the trigger, from then on out it's nothing but work. No hunter I know wants their prey to suffer, they use strong weapons and try to place the most lethal shot possible on their target.
Many hunters in my county also have a strong respect for the deer, rabbits, etc. that they hunt. One man in my area goes so far as to pray for the deer after he shoots it; thanking God for the animal and asking that the next kill may be more humane. Granted this is extreme, but few in my area are sadistic and kill for pleasure, we grow up learning about the natural world around us and learn to respect the animals around us. Most are also taught to be safe and have a respect, not fear, of firearms.
The vast majority of murders in America occur within urban areas. Few if any of these murderers ever hunted in their lives. Many never learned how to be safe around firearms, and many lacked family backing and moral guidence.

In the area I'm in, hunting is a way of getting close to nature and kind of experiencing what our ancestors experienced. They had to hunt for food, and around here, what we kill, we eat. It's not generally sadistic though I won't say that there aren't people like that. It seems to me that you are taking a very close-minded look at hunting. Plus, when deer populations or rabbit populations go rampant, hunting is a way to control it. I'm curious, where are you from, surely not a rural area.

Human beings have been killing animals for food and trophy for thousands of years. Slaughtering animals when the animal has no chance of escape is much more cowardly than hunting a wild animal on its own turf.

Actually, I prefer to stab my prey to death, but they usually don't let me get close enough.
I own a gun primarily because:
A. It is my right.
B. In the event of an emergency I want to be able to defend myself.
On the rare occasion that I do go hunting (I'm usually too busy) it is because you can't buy venison, squirrel, or rabbit in the grocery store.

Most people that kill people with guns never hunt, never grew up around guns and did not own them very long.
