I recently saw a news report that they are finally confirming that tanning beds do raise the chance of developing skin cancer. I guess all the people that have been using them for 10 or 15 years are finally developing the disease. I had a friend who used them religiously and at the tender age of 26 ended up with a melanoma on her face.

When you "tan" your skin you are burning your skin cells, killing them. Tanning beds will make you age more quickly because when you tan you DAMAGE your skin, and now research is finally showing that these stupid beds cause/raise the risk of cancer.

Stay away from them. They have great home spray tans or you can even go to a salon and get airbrushed if you don't want to do it yourself. The sprays have gotten MUCH better over the years and are not orange anymore.

You are still damaging your skin when you use a tanning bed. When you use the tanning bed the exposure is limited because it is timed. So you are still raising the chance of getting cancer, but at a lower level than just sitting outside in the sun.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer and approximately 90% of all skin cancers can be traced to UV exposure. The fact is that the UVA rays that are emitted from the Ultraviolet A light sources in tanning salons are two to three times more powerful than the UVA rays which occur naturally from the sun. That radiation is damaging to our skin. I would be careful.

I hope this helps. Be sure to read the source. It has alot of great info!

You have a better chance of getting skin cancer from the sun. I tan at a tanning bed and also work for a tanning salon and i can tell you that you can lower your risk by keeping your skin moisturised and putting lotion on before and after you tan. You can also lower your risk by using a milky body wash. As long as you care and hydrate your skin you should be fine.

Well I happen to know that if you use a tanning bed between the ages of 16-38 (close to those anyway) it raises your chances of getting Melanoma by 78%.

oh please, millions of girls would of died from skin cancer considering how many of them go on the highest level 2-3 times a week. This will not happen to EVERY single person, but rather the person who goes constantly like its a regular basis.

It will though, age your skin faster, get more wrinkles.
