I like it, though I must admit, I usually hear of black people using it. That being said, I do also know a little blonde child who has that name. What race it is usually associated with shouldn't matter. My husband and my son who are both Chinese have typically "black" names. One of Martin Luther King's children has the name Malakai, and MLK was a great man and has wonderful kids, so if that is of any bearing to you, it is a GREAT name!

I prefer the spelling Malachi. To me it's just a name I don't really think of a specific race or type of person when I hear it. Overall it's an ok name. Not one that I'd use personally but not one I hate either.

Overall i love the name and almost used it 17 years ago for my oldest son. However found out that it some sort of Pagan name!! So I don't know about you, but that jjust makes me cringe, and think that the person with this name would be a horrible amount of trouble and maybe even die very young...or on the other hand live to be verrry old.
I wish it wasn't a pagan sort of name.
Do you know of the movie 'Children of The Corn'??? you should watch it!!

the name is nice sounding but i think of it as a bad name.
i would never use it because the only malakai i know is in jail for molesting my younger cousin. so i picture an average looking male with evilness in him. plus "mal" in my language means bad.

Personally I like it.I almost named my son that. But I do think of Children of the corn or a amish person. So I would say go for it if you dont think about children of the corn or the amish. Good luck and I hope I was helpful.

It makes me think of the film 'Angela's ashes'. The brother of the protagonist had a very similar name, Malachi or something.
I like the name. And, as a nickname you can use Kai, which is cute.

I agree with the Children of the Corn reference. I just hear that little kid screaming "Malakai!!!" So, it makes me think of the devil. Sorry, its the influence from that movie. Best of luck.
