Africans would do just fine in your 55 gallon. You would want to stick to some of the smaller species and maybe only one or two species in the tank. Some small Julidochromis sp. would be really good as would smaller Neolamprologus sp. Here's a place you can start:

Hope that helps

to call yet another fisherman a kindergarten fisherman is being a real jerk in my e book. purely considering you reside out in Gods usa ( Montana, Wyoming,Idaho) the place a large number of the avid fly fishing is finished, does not provide you the ultimate suited to choose yet another fisherman on a submit they made. would desire to or no longer this is he simplified it, simply by question asked? asserting that fly fishing takes greater concentration than different forms of fishing is likewise non experience. I used to fly fish plenty as quickly as I lived in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. each and each style of fishing has its very own advantages, based on the section, individual, and so on. With all that suggested....attempt fly fishing, you would be able to come to like it, yet be for warned it takes, some time and practice as a fashion to maintain from snapping the fly off the chief or discovering the thank you to roll forged and so on. the toughest section is getting that little fly on the hook tho LOL. lower back i'm going to state each variety of fishing has its place, and circumstances, no longer all forms of fishing will meet all circumstances.

I had some irridescent sharks and they were amazing! I love them. But don't get too many because they get big. I've had ace for about 9 months and he grew from 1inch to 9 inches But they really have personality. Also lace catfish are cool, but they kinda hide all day, so get some middle dwellers as well.

What are your water parameters, mainly pH, KH & GH? It's best to get fish that are suited to your water as opposed to trying to adjust the water to suit them. Cichlids are probably fine as you could use some of the substrates such as crushed coral that raise the pH to where it needs to be.
