why do people have abortions?

I am prolife and am doing a research paper for college. I don't know why someone would do it or put their selves through an abortion

I am glad I asked you all have so much to say so calm down I am just trying to get you personal point of view rather then a pieace of paper so why did some of you not choose adoption?

oh and thank you for all of your input and not wanting to send me horrible messages. I respect your choice I just want to hear the reasons right out of some ones mouth thank you

Because they see no other alternative. Many women are not all lucky enough to live in a safe, loving environment. Many are uneducated about caring for themselves, much less another human.

Many fear being disowned by their family, or are very afraid of not being able to provide for a baby on their own. They feel they can't even tell their family they are pregnant.

Some women's lives are at risk if they give birth...I knew a woman who had to have an abortion because of that.

Some women are just vain and don't want to spend their time taking care of a baby, or don't want their body to get out of shape.

I am pro-choice because it should be a right for a woman to choose, but I don't believe women should choose abortion.

I personally do not think abortion should be used as a type of birth control. However, sometimes people make mistakes and things can happen. I don't think anyone should be forced to go through a pregnancy that they do not want. I don't know why someone would put themselves through THAT. If someone doesn't want kids, it's pretty simple really. There are way too many unwanted kids in the world today. Unfortunately many of them are actually being raised by their parents but they are not wanted. That's why the world is in such bad shape today. Birth control should be taken a lot more seriously and then the need for abortion would decline. However, in case of an accident or even worse, rape, abortion is the ONLY choice.

That is a hard thing to do. Most young girls will do it because they believe that they won't get to go to college if they have a baby and it will hold them back from becoming that lawyer,doctor,or whatever it is they want.
They are also scared of raising a child by theirself. Then you have those women who have cheated on their infertile spouse and don't want them to know so they have an abortion. There are so many reasons. I believe the reason why they don't choose adoption is because then everyone who knows them will see how they are getting bigger and have a round pregnant belly. Then they are left answering the questions to those who don't know well where is your baby at ? How is your baby? What did you name it? There are many reasons,no it may not be right. No body is perfect. I promise you those who have done it regret it everyday for the rest of their lives weather they admit it or not.
My best friend was raped at 16 she ended up pregnant by a 46 year old man (he is in prison now). Her father took her to the abortion clinic and told her if she came out still pregnant she would have no place to live. She wanted the baby because it was apart of her, but also wanted a roof over her head. She planned on still going to college but wanted the respect from her dad. She had a abortion. She is now 25. Her heart still hasn't mended from it. She no longer talks to her dad either.

Because they don't have the money. Or because there life has been hell they don't see the point of bringing a child into the world that might have to go through the same hell they have. Not everyone has loving parents, any relatives at all, or a good guy or friends becuase they were forced to move alot, or a good job. Some people are struggling to keep themselves going through each day, ex. getting shelter or food and then still being broke. Or mentally holding on, because maybe they just lost everything in a nasty divorce after giving up there career for there husband and moving to be with him overseas. And he screwed her. And now after moving back to the states and trying to pick a hometown to start and 3 years of trying to make it desperately, some guy pretending to be interested in her bangs her one night. There's no reason to have that kid. She needs to get herself together first.

People have abortions for many reasons. Although we hear most often about those that are gone through because the mother is young and cannot take care of the baby, there are also medical reasons. Sometimes the only way to save the mother's life is to abort the child. And then there are those who are raped, get pregnant, and cannot fathom the thought of having the rapist's child. You did not ask my opinion, so I will not give it - I am just giving you a few reasons to get you started.

I'm prolife and I have to say that there are some cases were people should have an abortion... Like in my case I wish my mother would have aborted me, because she died during child birth, and the doctors knew she would... In the case of children not forming right, and not expected to live past the age of three... I believe the women should have a choice on that...


In the end people can be against abortions, but its not up to us if someone else wants to have an abortion. Its their decision!

So many reasons why.. Not too many all that good to me other then to avoid the death of the mother however miracles happen. I am not at all for abortion. I know a woman who was raped and carried that little baby all the way through and she ended up being the most beautiful little girl. And get this the womans husband actually took over as dad for the child. The mother had alot of problems but saw someone and tried to work through them. Its an epidemic if you ask me. I think its wrong and brings me to tears almost. My god how could someone kill a baby. HEARTBEAT at as early as 7 weeks.
Ugggggg this topic makes me sick, seriously. I am so against abortion that just talking about it makes me feel this deep sadness for all the legally killed babies. How amazing some of them would have grown to be...Sad as hell.
I thank God for my baby.. never ever would give her up. And if I had to it would be to a family not a trash can.

I am pro choice.I think every baby has the right to be loved and wanted.When we strip away the emotional factor of having an abortion we must face the fact that every day babies are born into households that are less than ideal( physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and no love etc.) I ask myself what these poor babies were saved for .There was a small boy ,his name was Paulo , and he died at the age of 3,at the hands of his parents.A mortician said he looked better in death than in life.That comment still haunts me. I always thought your parents were supposed to love their children and protect them from all harm .By the way ,when I read this story, I became prochoice.

First of all it is a choice to have sex, and if people can not take the responsibility of their adult actions of having sex then they shouldn't have sex. Human society needs to control their themselves we are not wild beasts who can not control having sex. It is not the babies fault that his or her parents are immature. The reason why people get abortions is b/c they see that there is no way out and it is going to ruin their lives or families lives by bringing a child in the world. Again these people should have thought about this before they decided to have sex.

Because they dont want a kid. Sometimes things happen, even with protection. If you are safe and still end up pregnant and are not reasy for mother hood, abortion is an option. That is exactly why I did it. Why should I go through the turmoil of pregnancy and the pain of labor then give the result away?? Selfish, yes..but still my right.
