Copying a Microsoft Windows CD is actually pretty simple to do but doing so can be illegal. Valid reasons to burn a Microsoft Windows CD generally involve building a "slip stream" disc with a set of patches for the OS or just keeping an extra copy as backup. If you are taking your friend's Microsoft Windows OS or Office CD and using that on your hardware, you and your friend are violating the license terms. Microsoft also uses product activation to catch people doing this and your installation could invalidate the product keys for both you and your friend.

You CAN make a copy, but UNLESS the new PC has exactly the same hardware as the old one, it won't work correctly, as different systems require different drivers and windows checks the system in order to load the correct drivers when it installs!

If you do not have the original CD you are out of luck
