School dress code problems!?

I go to school in a VERY small country town (300 people in the WHOLE town) so my school has like 73 kids (Pre-k THORUGH 12th grade) Anyways, EVERYONE BUT ME at my school wears boots and wranglers and "tawks lak dis". I dress punk rock and I have to stand up for myself ALL THE TIME because people here can NOT read, and I LOVE to read so I get called "gay" because I read 4 books in 4 weeks. Heres the REAL problem though, I CANT wear my nose, eyebrow, or lip ring, but OTHER people can have cans of "tabacca" and pocket knives and the damn principal does NOTHING. Ive tried to contact a higher up person, but it seems like they dont care. I live in Texas BTW, is there some MAJOR school board I can talk to about this?? Im serious. IM so sick of this. When people mess with me, they dont get punished, but as soon as I stand up for myself, I get sent to the office! And I dont even cuss or anything!! The pricipal hates me because Im "satanic" and so do the teahers. What can I do?

What you should do is get a copy of the school code of conduct. They might have it on the internet. If there isn't anything there about body piercings, then they have no reason to punish you. And if they still bother you, throw them the 1st Amendment of the Constitution.

Give it time, those tobacco chewers won't look so good after a bout with oral cancer.

I grew up in the shadow of New York City. In someways it was very urban and other ways it was a small town. I was almost as much a fish out of water as you are.

Try and keep your eye on the future. I left town when I graduated high school and except to visit my family a couple of times a year -I've never been back. That was over 35 years ago.

It's not easy be an individual. My parents, my brother and two sisters still live back in our old hometown. They have pleaded with me to come back. To this day I can't. In so many ways my life is harder because the choices I've made but I feel my life is better because these are my choices and no one else's.

In one odd way you are Satanic. In Milton's Paradise Lost, Satan says better to a master in hell than a slave in heaven. And I believe you feel the same way.

You can not win the current battle you are fighting. There are some minds you can not change.

Start planning your escape now. Eighteen might seem like an eternity away but you will get there. Think about four years away at a distant college, a couple years doing charity work overseas or start lining up intern positions in some field of work that really interests you. Go for it now, it only gets harder as you get older.

It's sad to say (and I've told my two sons this) that even when you are right not all fights are worth fighting. You can win the battle and be no better off than when you started. Some times it better to move on than stand your ground. There are things more important than principals.

Good luck to you! I grew up in the Texas Panhandle and I can testify as to how open-minded the people here are NOT! Even though I lived in the big city (about 8,000 people), sounds like things haven't changed much. I had people accusing me of being gay even though everyone knew I had a girlfriend.

See if your parents will talk to the principle. He has no business treating you badly just because you are different than the other kids.

By the way, what region of Texas do you live in? I'm not asking for a specific town.
