It would have to have been someone who retired then made the hall of fame (a 7 year wait) then came back and played. I looked at a list of hall pitchers and couldnt fine one. If there is an answer to this you will find it in the link.

There's been plenty of matchups between pitchers who later were elected to the Hall -- Spahn-Marichal, Seaver-Carlton, Ryan-Clemens (yeah, he's not in yet, but will be). Niekro matched up against Sutton at least once.

No HOFer has ever returned to active service. (Palmer tried, but his doomed effort died in spring training, and it was pretty clear.)

There have been many cases where two pitchers who were later enshrined in the Hall of Fame have pitched against one another. Check the question again and re-phrase. I think you misinterpreted it.

that's kind of a trick question, since you can't be in the Hall of Fame until you retire!
Do you mean in retrospect or do you mean players you are pretty sure WILL go to the Hall???
Tom Glavine vs. John Smoltz..those are 2 sure Hall of famers who pitched against each other.
