Watching my Dad put up a Christmas window display in our parents clothing store. He was assembling a cardboard fireplace for background, and I just remember watching him and being totally happy.
This memory came to me when I was about 20, and although my parents had sold that store and moved down the street to a different location, I had always loved doing window displays with Dad. After Dads 2nd store closed, and he had moved away in search of a new job, I started working for the company who bought out the first business. While searching for neat display props in the attic of the store, I saw the cardboard fireplace, and had a flashback to watching Dad assemble it. I could recall the colors of the walls, ceiling, carpet in the window, and everything from the perspective of a very small child, sitting against the back "wall" of the display window watching him.
Later that evening, I called my Dad to ask him if the ceiling and walls at that store were mint green, and if the carpet was a nylon short tight weave tan color in the window, and when that would have been. He was shocked that I could remember that. It took place when I was about 14 months old. The "wall" behind me, supporting my back, was only about 2 feet tall, but over my head. He said it was remodeled briefly after that.
Its interesting, because I went into Retailing, with Visual Merchandising as my favorite part of my work.

I'm 33, and I think that my earliest memory is being pushed in a stroller to our town's Bicentennial celebration in 1976.

I have this memory of being kind of both being pushed and pulled through a dark wet slippery tunnel of sorts. It seems like an eternity but it all happened fast. Then all of a sudden I found myself hanging upsidedown and getting a smack on my butt. Then I was laid down on some blankets and had little suction syringes going all over my body, and then getting what felt like a sponge bath. This memory was something that happened about a year before I started walking.
