I have a friend who just moved to a new house and they have a vinyl above ground pool that they want to put up and build a deck around, but they aren't sure if they can keep it up all year round.

mine has been up year round for the last 2 years with no issues. we winterize it like any other above ground pool and put the cover on it. we do however remove the pump and put it inside so there is no chance of it freezing and breaking

Above ground pools with the ridgid sides are made to be up year round. If in a cold area, you just drain the water down below the skimmer and drain out the filter. Dismanteling an above ground pool would cause stress on the liner and replacement would be necessary.

I have owned several above ground ( vinyl ) pools. Every year we drain it, cut it into small sections, throw it to the curb, and the next year pay $ 100 for a new one. The reasoning for this is, it will cost you at least the same amount in cash ( and aggravation) . This way there is NO maint. ( of course this depends on the size of your pool!)

HI, I'm sure it all depends on how thick the vinyl is, and if it's chemical resistant. You have to keep adding chlorine to maintain the water . That would eat the vinyl, if its thin. Also the sun rots it . If it's a really good quality pool, The manufacturers took all that into account, I'm sure. So, I would tell your friends it's alright , but get a cover for it to protect it from the damaging rays of the sun. Bye

Sure you can keep it up all year. In the winter though, it has to be treated with chemicals and "closed" for the season. Then when it is spring again, it will have to be "opened" which usually involves a week or so of adding Shock materials to it to get the winter gunk out so that it is swimable again. My friend has one also and we have been using it for 3 years now. Most pool companies will close and open them for you for a nominal fee plus the cost of the shock materials. You could just read up on it and do it yourself too, I guess.

yeah you can, but you have to drain all water out of it before winter because when water freezes it expands and it will crack the vinyl if not drained. you'll have to cover the top of the pool with a big tarp to keep water from getting in

Yeah, leave it up especially if they deck around it. Depending on the climate and winter ice buildup, they will have to reduce the water level so ice doesn't buildup over the top. You buy special winter covers for the pool and pack away the pump and filter so they don't freeze.

Yes! Just buy a winterizing kit for your pool size, and then in the spring, buy the chemical kit for your size pool to open it up. In the winter, do drain below the skimmer and undo the filter hoses if you live in a cold weather climate like i do in WI.
