Water flowing from the eyes is a result of evolution. Primitive man was often subjected to injuries and that included the head region. If an animal has blood from a wound getting into its eyes it has a higher chance of survival if it can quickly clear away the blood and regain its vision. The animal can then defend itself better or get away. So tears help to re-establish one's ability to see where they are going or what they are doing if they are bleeding in the area near the eyes. Tears are associated with an injury for this reason. Humans are quite complex creatures, of course, and somehow evolution has allowed for tears to be associated with any injury, even when the injury is mental, or emotional in nature and has no physical component.

It is tied with the human emotions. People cry when sad and happy. Crying is not always associated with tears, an example would be crying for attention.

Well, crying is producing tears because of an emotion.

We can produce tears because of wind or grit getting in our eye, or because of a cold or something else.
But we cry when we produce tears through sorrow or through immense joy.

Crying is the bodies way of getting rid of over productions of chemicals that make us feel good or bad.

Everything else is just the eye being cleaned or moistened.

We don't. Tears are a natural product of our body. Tears will appear as a result of irritation to our eyes or sinuses.Tears can happen when you cry with happiness as well as sadness, did you think of that?
