He would do his baby babble for a long time and now all of the sudden he just stopped trying to talk period. He giggles but never tries talks. Is this normal? Is this a sign of teething? Is this going to affect his talking milestone?

thanks everyone

Babies drop certain things for a while, when they are processing lots of new information.

Just to be sure, ask the pediatrician.

I'm not being sarcastic when I say this but - let the poor baby alone. Babies concentrate really hard on learning new things and very often can only focus on one skill at a time. Four months is a physical age probably figuring out this rolling over thing and maybe even sitting up a little if you prop his arms for him. Watch him for an afternoon and really appreciate all the complex boby moves he is learning and see if you think you'd have room in your little baby mind for mindless chatter. Keep talking to him and he will respond as soon as he has some other things sorted out. Above all remember everything your baby does is a miracle so why pay attention to only the walking and talking and miss out on the rest?

Take a deep breath Mom, everything is going to be fine. It's normal to worry about everything as a new Mom, but it's also normal for 4 mo. old babies to clam up. He's probably focusing on other things right now. Babies have a lot to learn in the first few years of life and sometimes get distracted and may even forget something they have already learned. I can remember my daughter counting to 10 when she was only 18mo. because we were teaching her older brother. She forgot how to count later and didn't learn again until she was 3. As long as your baby is attemping simple words by 1year I wouldn't worry.

Happy Mommying to you!

i'm sorry, but i don't remember my son ever doing that and he's only 7 months. he has just progressed with his baby talk.

i can tell you that he doesn't talk as much if he's sick or teething, so those could be 2 reasons...OR is he talking, just not when you are right there??
like maybe he's playing on the floor and you're in the bathroom??

you seem pretty concerned, so maybe ask his pediatrician. he may have developed a hearing problem or is just not feeling well...

take care.

Bring it up to your doctor, if they don't think it's an issue, then you shouldn't either. My wife had the same concerns about our boys.
Realize also that your child, being a male, is never going to talk that much anyway.

Remember he's only 4 months... he was more than like just making sounds... and had no intention or talking or trying to talk... just continue to talk to him... I used to talk to my son a lot... like i would tell him what i'm doing now. and when we're walking ... tell him about things we are passing... if he doesn't try to imitate words by at least 6 - 8 months... you should talk to you his/her dr.

My mom had a similar situation and asked the doctor about it and he told her "maybe he doesn't have anything to say". That's too early to start worrying. He'll talk when he's ready.

If it is really noticeable, bring it up to the pediatrician and have an on site hearing test.
