I use dish soap (dawn, palmolive, etc) mixed with water... and spray on the bushes.

the soap makes the aphids 'dry out' and they cannot retain moisture so they die.

use about 1/4 cup soap to 1/2 gallon of warm water and stir til mixed... then put in spray bottle and spray them down. this can be done every couple days.... especially after it rains

The best natural way is to plant marigolds next to rose bushes. aphids hate them and will find another garden to bug.

The dishwashing soap thing is one way. The best natural results I've had is to use insecticidal soap mixed at the weakest recommended strength combined 50/50 with rubbing alcohol. It kills almost any soft-bodied critter instantly and even works on some of the tougher ones. Works on caterpillars too.
