solve using the quadratic equation
(-b+or - sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a

so -6 +or- sqrt(36-4*(-120) all divided by 2

so (-6+/- sqrt(516))/2

(-6+/- 2sqrt(129))/2

-3+/- sqrt (129)

x = [- 6 ± √(36 + 480)] / 2
x = [- 6 ± √(516)] / 2
x = [- 6 ± 22.7] / 2
x = 16.7 / 2, x = - 28.7 / 2
x = 8.35, x = - 14.35
