I bought an external hard drive casing and placed my old Samsung Hard drive in it. Upon assembling everything, I had my computer rebooted with the external hard drive plugged. After booting, my computer was able to recognized the device as USB Mass Sotrage including the brand and model of hard drive that I'm using but it doesn't exist on the list of storage under My Computer.

Are you sure the drive is compatible with the case? I had the same problem where the drive was the wrong type, Windows recognized the interface hardware in the case, but since that hardware did not recognize the drive, no drive showed up. Another brand of case solved the problem, but I don't really know why I bothered, it was an old 4GB drive, not worth the effort and I think the age was the problem.

It didn't appear as a local disk either? Also, how old is your computer? It may nolt support the drivers for the drive.
