How can Al Gore really think that Global Warming can kill more people than a terrorist with a Boeing jet can? Do any normal Americans believe this?

Terrorism definately. So I need to use more air conditioning, big deal. A terrorist could kill me, an extra degree won't. I don't want to hear the crap about the environment, we have been through ice ages, warming spikes, cool downs ect, the planet is still here, life is still here. We can't fly to the moon, see billions of years into the past of our universe, but we can't deal the potential results of global warming? That is if global warming is even on the scale Al Gore is talking about.

Global warming can, if left unchecked, kill hundreds of thousands of people and leave millions more homeless. A 'terrorist' (I don't know how exactly you define terrorist, so I'm being careful here) in a plane can possibly kill a few hundred to a few thousand.

And while both events would be tragic, I'm sure you can see why taking action to prevent the effects of global warming is a very serious issue.

Edit: And, since you asked a GW theory question, and I am feeling a little pumped about this, I'd like to mention that the final version of the 4th IPCC assessment report was just released yesterday, further cementing the fact that human activity has been responsible for most or all of the current warming trend. You can read the whole thing online for free here:

http://ipcc-wg1.ucar.edu/wg1/wg1-report.html

And you really should you know, because anyone caught trying to discuss climate change now without having read the report first will be laughed at.

Global warming will take decades or even centuries to have any kind of devastating effect. Terrorism is already here and can happen in moments. Global warming will kill millions if it is as bad as the academicians want us to believe. Terrorism will kill thousands certainly and millions if they get ahold of nuclear weapons and actually use them. So if you are looking at the here and now, then terrorism is certainly more important to deal with. If you don't care about short term and are more interested in the long term, then global warming might be your thing.
For my part, I think that we need to focus on teaching all people to accept one another as equals with a stock in making the world habitable for all. Christ said it best, love God and love your neighbor as yourself. If we would do that, then we would not hurt each other, we would not trash the place we live in and we would go out of our way to help each other and make the earth a better place for all.

Nope. I don't.

Let's see, Global Warming is caused more by nature than by humans. So, that tells me it is a natural process and one that humans shouldn't tamper with. How are we going to stop oceans from giving off water vapor and carbon dioxide? How do we keep cows from passing gas? How do we keep volcanos from erupting? Did it ever occur to anyone that this may be just the way it is? God didn't make us or the Earth to be forever.

The main way that humans are destructive to the enviroment is in dumping toxic waste on the earth and in streams, rivers, and lakes. Read below to see how that has changed.

Even in recent times, the temperature has not behaved as it should according to global warming theory. Over the last eight years, temperature in the southern hemisphere has actually been falling. Moreover, says Piers Corbyn, "When proper satellite measurements are done of world temperatures, they do not show any increase whatsoever over the last 20 years."

"Air pollution has been falling in modern industrialised countries for the last 40 years," says Steve Hayward. "And it's been falling precisely because of economic growth and improvements in technology. Even in Los Angeles, which has the worst smog in the United States, air pollution levels have fallen by about half in the last 25 years — and that's at a time when the area's population has doubled and its economy has tripled."

In the United States as a whole, over the past quarter of a century, the population has increased by 30 per cent, while the number of cars and the size of the economy has nearly doubled. And yet, during the same period, emissions of the six main air pollutants have decreased by 30 per cent. In addition, says Gregg Easterbrook, Americans have stopped pumping waste water from cities into lakes and streams, stopped dumping untreated sewage in the sea and toxic wastes on land, and eliminated the use of CFCs.

"Lake Erie 30 years ago was virtually dead," adds Steve Hayward. "Today you can fish in it, you can swim in it. The statistics on the amount of pollution in the food chain have shown dramatic improvement in the last 30 years."

Well, if you're talking about actual numbers, then global warming might be able to do it. The effects of global warming would mean more and more powerful hurricanes. It could increase drouts, and Africa already has a hard time with that. Then, the added heat would kill more just by itself.

This is assuming that the terrorists don't get a nuclear bomb.

What? Millions of people displaced by rising sea level.. loss of agricultural production creating starvation? Any of this hitting home. It's not just going to "get hotter". The only real question is how much of it is really caused by man and how much can we prevent from happening. At one time the vikings lived all across northern Europe and raised crops and fed cattle in places where that would be impossible now. So at one time. . it was warmer than it is now. So are we simply reverting to a previous state? Even if that is true.. global warming will kill millions if we are unwilling or ultimately incapable of doing anything about it.

Global warming is a natural occurance. It is wise to make plans to deal with the results of the Earth warming. It is foolish to think we can somehow stop it.

This is just an issue that is being exploited by many for their own personal benifit.

Global Warming and Terrorism are equally serious.

Whats the point in fighting terrorism if the earth is uninhabitable by humans?

The fact is - the current administration isn't doing sh** to 'stop terrorism'. Every single one of the national security reports said exactly the opposite - we are actually increasing terrorism worldwide through our actions - this administration has been a terrorist recruiters wet dream.

Wake the f**k up.

Global waming must be the most important issue.
The TV said so!
terrorism is the real threat-especially when terrorists get some nukes.

Terrorism cant be stopped but it can be minimized. Humans are always aggressive by nature.

On the other hand global warming can be stopped at least theoratically.

I believe the priority is to minimize terrorism not to eliminate global wraming.
