I mean they don't even have a decent quarterback yet... and you need a good quarterback for a wide reciever to save you....

the lions won't be great this year but the importaint thing is they now have a good core of young players to build around. a lot of their past picks had no heart for the game but guys like johnson, williams, stanton and sims are players that have the ability to dominate with 2-4 years experience.

Calvin Johnson is 6'5" and run a forty yard dash comparable to some of greatest sprinters in the world (4.35 or so). He is a hard worker and could be an elite WR.

Drew Stanton (Michigan State) was taken in the mid-second round. If he gets his mechanics down he could be the quarterback of the future for the Lions. His mobility is wonderful. He's a hometown guy. I'm a Michigan fan but even I admit he had a few great games vs. us in '04 and '05. The line is not elite but it is very good. We picked up a hard working DE from Hawaii from what I gather and Marinelli is still making big changes on defense. So with a beast like Johnson life only get better from hetre on out for the Lions.

Plus, Joe Thomas obviously has no passion for the game. he didn't even care enough to show up for the draft. He will prove to be too Lazy to pan out for the Browns.

Calvin Johnson isn't going to do it alone, but looking at what the LIONS have now its quite simple to see they'll have a potent offense next year. Having Calvin Johnson and having Roy WIlliams is going to be tough for DC's around the league. DB's around the league will have to run with Furrey. Calvin is going to make teams play back in fear of the deep ball, and that should give more space for Mike Martz to get the football to Tatum Bell in space. I would be shocked if the Lion's aren't a top 5 passing offense and a top 10 overall offense next year and Calvin will be a big part of it.

Calvin Johnson will not save the lions.

Once again Matt Millen screwed up in the draft and it will lead to another terrible season. For one thing, wide reciever was not a problem for the lions last season. Both Roy Williams and Mike Furrey were great last season. Adding another talented reciever will not make the lions that much better. The lions had pressing needs at offensive line, linebacker, and in the secondary. By drafting Calvin Johnson they ignored all of those needs and those problems still exist.

Also drafting Drew Stanton in the second round was confusing because they basically took a guy who will not contribute next season and ignored some solid defensive players who could help them next year like David Harris.

Good point. but you gotta look at this, you do not pass on the BEST player in the draft! The Texans are kicking their own behinds to this day for passing on Bush and Young. Millen is a bonehead no doubt and should be fired, but cudos on this one though. Calvin and Roy has set them at receiver, now a good GM can come in and finish the job by getting a O-LINE to PROTECT the qb, and also shore up the D and in the long run, you'll see the this pick paying off!

You idiot! look as Johnson's old quarterback at ga tech! You call Reggie Ball a quarterback!?!?!? And anyways the Lions drafted Drew Stanton.6'3" 230 pounds, runs a 4.7 40, very athletic.

don't forget that it doesn't matter if Johnson is wide open when his QB is flat on his back. They have line issues to deal with too. Johnson is a good pick, so if they can fix that line and get a QB, he could be a star in a few seasons. Oh yeah, get rid of Millen if you want that to happen.

The only thing that will save the Lions is a new owner who will promptly fire Matt Millen. That would at least give us some hope.
