Yes. but they do it because they can. Society lets them get away with it. Takes a looooooooooooong time to change the attitude and actions of the dominant culture. but things are better than they used to be!!!

Unfortunately, the US can't lay claim to being the only guilty ones here. it's riff everywhere and it's the society we've become. We have all lowered our standards so much now that we have little dignity left at all. Generally the youngsters today has little respect for their parents let alone anything else, and yes I'll cop some flack from them here but that will just prove what I'm saying - so much for freedom of speech.
It's not just the men either. I work in an environment of young people and the problem is with both sexes - trust me. It's an attitude problem.

you know, if those are the least of your problems, you should be rather thankful. I mean, these sort of problems can at least be ignored. Considering there are places in the world where:
-a woman can be beaten if she lets a truss of hair fall out of her head scarves
-a woman can have acid thrown on her face if she goes outside without her face covered
-where rapists can get out of his crime if they can prove that the woman was dressed provocatively enough to be "asking for it"
-where teenage girls are required on pain of death to have their sexual organs mutilated so that they do not derive any pleasure from sex.
-where a 13 year old girl can be given to marriage by her father to a man she has never met (who could well be over 30) simply to secure a business deal between the two families.
Are there barbaric elements to our society? Yes, some people will act like buffoons no matter how civil a society is. But in our society, we have laws that specifically protect women from the above mentioned hideous crimes. You should consider that you have the luxury to date around, and if he asks for sex on the first date, you have the freedom to turn him down, and use his aggressions as little more than a stamp to indicate the quality of person that he is.

It's what they learn and imbibe from their surroundings. TV is full of it, so is movies, music, the media, school, etc. Until parents themselves can be a bigger spiritual influence on boys and men, bigger than the rotten world, boys will grow up subject to the influence that women are sexual objects. And women too have to learn not to present themselves as such because they can be worse than the guys. It's the sex game that some people, weak ones, choose to play for the excitement it brings.

I think this works both ways - I know a lot of women who treat their men with little or no respect as well. People in general (all over the world, not just here in the U.S.) should start treating others the way they wish to be treated.

Because they will never grow out of the neanderthal phase. Not all guys are like that, it's the idiots that I find are like that. Sometimes I can ignore it. Othertimes I need to tell them how ignorant that sound. And I never make a waitress mad. She's #1 got a hard job. #2 Sees your food before you do!

I don't think this is just an American problem. Some men the world over treat women this way. You just have to be careful about who you chose as a partner.

Things are still changing, evolving, but most of those guys were raised by families with the same dynamic-- mother not respected by father-- so they think it's okay. Look for more open-minded and mature guys (which doesn't necessarily mean older, simply guys who were raised to know how to respect women).

The reasons is 50-50.
If you allow someone to treat you badly, you give them a message and everyone else who witnesses the event. When you tell others, you also tell the world how you are willing to be treated by others.
You are not responsible for their actions, however, allowing them to continue to do so is problematic. Just remind them that someone is going to do the same thing to their mother, wife and/or children. They help shape our society.
On the other side of the coin, don't sweat it. Don't let someone else's rudeness and crudeness ruin your day.

Bad parenting, society, neanderthals? Men do it simply because they act on their primitive urges to get a female's attention, regardless of their upbringing. Women are just as guilty when it comes to getting a man's attention. It's all a matter of self-control.
