Search engines scan the web and will eventually find your site. But to make it more visible, there are things you can do in the html: Give your pages title tags. Use meta tags for description and keywords. Use the H1 tag for important headlines. Have good content text that uses your keywords. Create a sitemap for your site, link it to your homepage and submit it to Google. Put a search box on your site. Visit Google's webmaster tips to learn about these things. http://www.google.com/webmasters/
Read about the robots.txt file and how to use it. Manually submit your site to Google and other engines that allow free submission.
