External beauty is a sort of a joke that the universe plays on us.

We think that it is ours then the universe takes it away and gives us wrinkles in return.

Inner beauty is all that really exists. Any other idea of beauty is just a temporary illusion.

Helen Keller said that the most beautiful things in life are not seen but felt with the human heart. Physical beauty serves a purpose for the mating instinct. It's part of attraction. It's a measure of goodness in the earth. But just a measure as there are many other things that are beautiful beyond sight. Like music, or human qualities of compassion. The unseen soul posesses a beauty that spiritually gifted people can sense. If we take pride in some measure of beauty that we have, the pride kills the beauty or corrupts it.

Beauty is absolute. Certain things have a pure and exact balance of harmony and delicacy that radiates the quality of beauty. Attraction is in the eyes of the beholder, not beauty. People can be attracted to something that is in reality rather ugly, but claim that it is beautiful. Beauty is therefore an absolute truth that most people recognize without thinking about it. It begins at one level of physical existence and doesn't stop there. When on the right path we always seek more of what is beautiful and good in our lives.

I know it's a tricky concept. I once married a man (many moons ago) who was downright gorgeous. But the more I knew him, the uglier he got. I paid a price (he broke my face), but learned a lesson (beauty has little to do with appearance).

That's the short version, anyway...

Beauty is shallow!

If you'd go deep you'd always find something not as beauty as the surface!

initially beauty is a physical thing, but as you get to know a person, someone who wasn't particularly pleasing to the eye can become more attractive as you as you get to know their personality. Humor, strength, gentleness, caring all are attractive qualities that are not apparent by looking at someone.
