Does global rule 1 apply to community theaters? I heard from some it depends on the number of seats, but would like a definitive answer.

Thank you, I was confused by Global Rule 1 - no no-nunion work" - we are supposed to also support the other unions (equity) so I wanted to be sure. I had heard that even equity members can perform in 99 seat theaters, but not in 100 seat theaters.

I just want to make sure I am not supposed to be observing equity rules as a member of SAG (which you ARE supposed to do) ...

You can see why it is confusing.

A member of SAG can perform; a member of Equity cannot, unless the theatre is following Equity rules.

You may want to speak with a union rep. They're there to help answer those questions. You may need to keep worker's comp insurance on file, even though it's on stage. Probably not, but the rep should be able to answer your questions. Just look up SAG's site for questions.

If you go financial core you can perform in anything. You lose your right to vote and the free movies but so what? They will try to sell you a bill of goods about why you shouldn't do it, but don't listen. You've got to take care of yourself first. Then worry about the other 100,000 members.

Screen Actors Guild has nothing to do with theatre!

Screen Actors Guild represents actors in film, television, industrials, commercials, and music videos, not theater.

You can participate in community theatre.
