Go to the interview, never hear back........
Go to the interview, get told you're over-qualified, even if you're willing to take a pay cut....
Go to the interview, realize you'd HATE working with those people and HOPE you don't get called back...
Go to the interview, get told you're under-qualified, even if you're willing to work for less money than the position pays...
Get your hopes up when the phone rings, only to discover it's a telemarketer trying to sell you a newspaper subscription......
I'm about ready to go apply at McDonald's : (

Jobs are like men. When you least expect it the right one will come along. You are gonna be fine. You are a pistol. :)

First off he needs to realize becoming a police officer isn't as simple as the mind set everyone has I have been actively going through the hiring process for Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD... I have done the exam, physical, background interview, panel interview, psychological exam, and now I have to retake the Polygraph because my last test came back "Inconclusive" and if I don't pass it in August the academy class I am projected for in Jan 2010 is done and I can basically kiss that job goodbye after 8 months of actively going through the hiring process - I am a honorable USAF, OIF Security Forces (military police vet) and hold a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice *** Laude Honors and with the surplus of people out of work now they are just being extremely picky now Also just like I said there are a ton of people out of work (myself included) you just gotta keep tellin him to press at it... I have my second interview for Astra Zeneca this Thursday it's a Pharmaceutical Sales position something WAY OUT in left field in my career progress but at this point I'll take anything Also now would be a great time to go back to school he can get grants, loans, etc to help cover the expense and possibly some living expenses... With this break between separating from the service and work I have returned to school and I found another career I am interested in Emergency Medicine and right now training to be a Medic... Your husband might find his ninch as well just some suggestions... Just gotta keep hope up and look for anything and be less picky right now because it's a tough market especially depending on where you live and right now I'm in Ohio which is hit REAL hard

don't give up. been there done that many times and it is just a matter of numbers and saturation. you have to put yourself out there many many times and saturate the market these days and something will click. And I know, you will even get sick of yourself as you print out more and more resumes and fill out more and more applications but just hang in there. Sometimes it will just come out of the blue while you are talking to someone else about looking for work.
the main thing to remember is that you know who you are and that regardless of what anyone else says or doesn't say in an interview doesn't change that. I wish you well

My gf is having all manner of trouble in her search, between lost applications and not hearing the phone ring...still, she keeps going...as for me, have been where I am since December and hate it with a passion, but am also working on changing jobs.

I know. I feel so frustrated too. The worst thing is, I feel like I'm hopeless cause I'm getting old and its even harder to get a job when you're turning 30.

It's the worst. But you do acquire a certain amount of humility. Hang in there - don't give up! And don't work at McD's under any circumstances!!
