I have a 96 Tercel that is having a problem with the clear coat starting to peel off. It's seems to be happening only on the left side of my car (under the windows and on the top back area above the passenger side door). This is the area where I had collision repair work done several years ago (pretty much from the driver side door to the end of the car). Is this probably because the paint job wasn't done properly? I haven't seen this problem anywhere else on my car (at least not yet). How much approximately would it cost to have it repainted? Any suggestions on a reputable place to take it to? I can't really buy a new car right now as much as I want to.

I would suggest you take it back to the original repair shop if you can and see if they warranty the work...the clear coat should not be peeling if it was done properly to begin with on the repairs. Most reputable shops will repaint the area at no charge but if not, I would go to several shops in your area and get estimates to repaint the areas with the problem which is basically the whole side of the car and in my area (Wisconsin) the job would probably run about $1200.00 although it's hard to say exactly without seeing the damaged area. Sometimes you have to blend the paint into adjacent panels when painting and this brings up the cost. I would really hold the original shop to redoing the work...it just wasn't done right if it's peeling and if there was an insurance company involved, talk to them about it and see if they can bring some pressure on the shop to guarantee their work.
Good luck, Paul

Earl Scheib is a chain of quicky re-spray shops, and they say they can do a car for as little as $260, so if you need it cheap, look them up. If you want it done well, look for a auto body shop, and expect to pay at least twice that, if not more.

Ive taken My car to Macco. that place is truely amazing and cheap. it was like 200 dollars compared to the body shops wanted close to 400 or more. they also did a great job and provide gurantees.
