As per UAE Labor law, there are two kinds of contracts, limited and unlimited. Limited contract is valid for one to three years duration, while unlimited is an open contract not specified the duration.

If the contract is for limited duration, the worker is not permitted to quit the company before the expiry of his/her contract term, except in the case when both parties the employer and the employee agree to it.

If the contract is of unlimited duration, then the employee can quit the job by giving the employer a notice of one month. Regarding the ban, if the worker is sponsored by a company then the company has the right to put a ban stamp.

Hope the information will help.

Akbr, you will have a limited contract if it mentions any period of length you are supposed to work. If the initial length is not mentioned, just a probation period, then you will have an unlimited contract. Unlimited contracts may be canceled with a notice period of one month as per Federal Law 08 (pls see link below with information in Arabic and English). Should you employer pose any problems to you, call the 800 number from the Ministry of Labour (800 665 from any mobile or landline within the UAE), they are quite helpful! Regards, Martin Rusteberg
