Hello, we have a family care home, taking care of the mentally ill, and need to hire someone out of our family to work for us. Since this is a family business, and very personal, how do you hire someone you can trust with your home? They will be living in the home. Thank You

Thats a hard one. I am a nurse so I understand the trust and integrity issues you are concerned with. I think that all of the background checks should be done extensively but maybe the interview needs to be longer and less informal. Maybe you could have have your interviews then pick a short list of your favourite candidates. Maybe a lunch interview. Get the candidate talking about personal issues such as family and friends so that you can see what their values are and they can understand yours a little better. Make sure you listen to your intuition on this one aswell. Good luck!!!

Get a list of suitable candidates through ads or a recruiting agency, as may be economical. Specify that you want the CV to give more detailed information about the candidates' work experience, and at least 3 or 4 references.
Interview the short-listed candidates personally and in detail, and study their body language, empathy and sincerity of purpose. Family background of a candidate is important for this type of job. If you wish, you may have another person from your family care home to be present at the interview for his/her impression of the candidate.
At the interview, see if you can ask the candidates to reply to a particular situation which you have faced in your home, that needed sensitive handling. Their responses might give you some insight about their suitability.
Check whether the references are sufficient for the position, and are independent (preferably not related to the candidate). Contact the references over phone or in person (if possible) for detailed assessment of the candidates integrity, sincerity and aptitude for the job.

i guess its a test of judgement an employer has for a interviewee. if i was the employer i would test them i would make sure if they could last more than 1 week working for me. its how employers should do it.and i would have them work 1 week to see if they are worthy of hiring.
