It is possible and happens.. Most often from opening an email with an infected attachment.

You can be hacked from the internet side but generally the hackers dont waste too much time on dialup users, the connection is just too slow and there are many more broadband users that can be hit.

No he is wrong - Even a dial up connection can be Hacked into (and quite easily too) .

Just run software firewall on your comp before dialling in , you will see hundereds of attempts to break into your machine every hour (if your ISP is something like mine) every script kiddie out there is looking for a host to control.

Dial up connections cannot be hacked or hijacked because their IP Address are randomly generated.

Your repairman may be right.

Set your firewall setting a bit higher, and also use the program I hate keyloggers found at http://www.ihatekeyloggers.com
Then run you your anti virus and spyware programs in safe mode and remove any spyware/virus you may have.
