The car cuts out while you're going up hills or under acceleration, then starts up again when you take your foot off the accelerator. This is also a symptom of a blocked fuel filter.

Low pressure from the pump, Hessitation, loud or noise pump can be heard inside the car, stalling out when the tempeture increases out side. REplacement of the fuel filter can prolong the life of the pump, But once it starts to go out it's only a matter of time before it's done for.

the engine does not run
will not accelerate
before claiming it's the fuel pump - have you replaced the
the fuel filter lately - like over 30,000 miles ago -
could mimic the same response and it's only a couple bucks
versus - whooeeee
best of luck!

symptoms depend on year and model of car. but all of the answers you have recieved are correct . check pump if it is a newer car with electric pump in tank open gas door and remove cap put your ear to opening and have someone torn the ignition on you should hear a quick humm and if it is older car with manual pump located on motor remove fuel line from carb insert line in coffee can and have someone crank over motor and see if fuel comes out with moderate pressure . pressure depends on car and type of pump some produce around 45 psi to 60 psi while most manual pumps produce 7 to 14 psi like i said depends on car and model. but either instance you can get a fuel pump pressure guage and connect line that goes to carb or fuel injection and measure pressure to see and most shops have them.

basicly you will experiance hesitation at the lower end of the rpm scale, where as a restricted fuel filter will cause a hesitation at the other end of the scale, like any time you get to 4500 rpm, it starts to miss, but if you let go of the gas it recovers.
