we've all been there one time or another... if one has it LOL then one should read the following...

What to eat if you have diarrhea:

--Eat foods that are high in pectin, such as applesauce, bananas, and yogurt. Pectin, a water-soluble fiber, helps reduce diarrhea.

--Eat foods that have a lot of potassium, such as fruit juices, sports drinks, potatoes without the skin, and bananas. Potassium is often lost through diarrhea.

--Eat foods that are high in sodium, such as soups, broths, sports drinks, crackers, and pretzels. Salt helps you retain water so you don't become dehydrated.

--Get enough protein. Try lean baked beef, pork, turkey, or chicken, or well-cooked eggs or tofu. This can help you avoid fatigue.

--If you like certain fruits and vegetables, eat them cooked, not raw. Some raw fruits and vegetables can make diarrhea worse. Try soups made with cooked asparagus tips, beets, carrots, peeled zucchini, mushrooms, or celery; tomato puree; or a baked potato without the skin.

--Avoid caffeinated, alcoholic, or carbonated beverages and very hot or cold foods. They may irritate your digestive tract.

--Avoid using tobacco products. They may irritate your digestive tract.

--Avoid high-fat, fried, greasy, and rich foods. They can promote diarrhea.

--Avoid foods that cause gas, such as chewing gum and carbonated beverages. They can irritate your digestive tract.

--Limit milk and milk products. They may be hard to digest and promote diarrhea.

--Avoid nuts, raw fruits and vegetables, whole-grain breads, and bran products. They can be irritating to your digestive tract.

=) haha goodluck buddy... remember to wash your hands after your done. =)

For the first 24 hours, you should not eat a single thing. You should drink clear liquids- excluding beer and alcohol. After 24 hours you can have BRAT- bananas, rice, apples/sauce, and toast(bread and crackers as well), and all the clear liquids you can stand. Absolutely no dairy of any sort- no yogurt, no butter, no milk, cream, ice cream or cheeses. If the diarrhea still is with you after 48 hours, you need to see a doctor. If the diarrhea has stopped, and it usually does by the end of the first day, then you can progress to a blandish diet on the third day. You can have grilled meats with little to no fat, cooked veg without sauces, and fruits- not prunes of course. You still should not have any sort of dairy products. After the fourth day, you should eat one small carton of live culture yogurt- any sort of live bacterial culture will do, the more in it the better for you. No other dairy though. Next day, eat another carton of it. If things are still going well for you, you can ease back the dairy into the diet. If at any time in this the diarrhea starts back again, quit eating and go back to the clear liquids only for 24 hours. If it ever continues for 48 hours, go see the doctor. If you run fever at any point, go see the doctor. Although there are anti-diarrhea medicines on the market, they are not really good to use unless you are very certain why you have it in the first place. Diarrhea is the body's way of clearing out unwanted guest bacterias, and it's better out than in. If you stop the diarrhea before the house is clean, you stand a chance of bottling it all up inside where it can really make you miserable sick, as well as having to suffer from the constipation they usually cause afterwards. Bottled up bacteria can cause tremendously bad cramping and gas from the fermentation going on and bacterial population explosion. While it diarrhea isn't exactly a best friend, it is a good buddy to have if bacteria or food poisoning are in the house.

You poor thing. You have my deepest sympathy. I've had the same problem for over 6 years. Mine was caused by chemo and certain foods set me off. I've found that if after the first 24 hours and you aren't any better try Imodium or loperamide. I spent 19 days in hospital with it 3 years ago and basically they went through every food group imaginable to find out my triggers - is it something you ate which set you off or, has someone passed lurgy onto you? Drink plenty of fluids and if you have them something like a re hydrating drink as they replenish the bodies salts. And don't forget to wash your hands thoroughly every time you use the loo.

Your first main concern is to retain moisture if you are cramping and can't drink or eat. Diarhoea will severely dehydrate you. You need to try to maintain your electrolytes and fluids. For a child an easy recipe is as follows, in one liter (litre) (about 1 quart)of water dissolve 2 level tablespoons of sugar or honey, one quarter of a teaspoon of salt (Na Cl) and one quarter of a tea spoon of baking soda( bi carbon ate of soda)if available add 1 mashed ripe banana to this and mix well. The complete mixture should not taste saltier than tears. This should be drunk in sips every 5 min until normal urination returns,A small child needs at least one glass replacement for every watery stool. Dont change this recipe even if you are over 10 , try to just keep drinking it, try to eat the brat food recomendations, tell an adult( or if you have told an adult, see if they can get you an over the counter "stick your butt shut medication" from the drugstore) , if you are worse in 2 hrs try to get to a doctor or hospital,

Well since eating makes you have to go to the bathroom more then probably not. Instead try drinking TONS of water. Drinking water always helps to fill you up so it will feel like you ate. You might have to eat a little but try not to eat a lot. You could also take medicine.

A fast effective way of making your bowels firm up is Gatorade. I kid you not...it works on my family every time. Just buy a standard one serving bottle and drink the whole thing. It should firm up your bowels in just a couple of hours. And it won't lead to constipation the next day either, as chemical inhibitors might. And, as an added bonus, you can be sure that your body is getting back all the electrolytes it lost because of the diarrhoea in the first place.

Eat nothing for 24hrs then eat just dry stuff i.e. toast, arrowroot biscuits. Avoid anything dairy until you start to feel better. Drink plenty of fluids (not alcohol or anything fizzy) water is the safest bet. Hope you feel better soon.

One drinks water only for 24 hours, to starve the infection of nutrients. It then dies and passes through your system.

That is unless one's diarrhea is not due due to infection, such as stress induced. In which case, one treats the cause, not simply the symptoms.

If it persists, see a doctor.

Good luck! Rob

dont eat fibre, it makes it worse cos thats for constipation so eat stuff like apple but without the skin so peel it off. also, eat greek yoghurt, it helps settle the stomach. dont eat tomtoe or tomatoe juice or tomatoe soup coz that has far too much fibre. also eat white bread NOT brown as brown has wholesome grains so its NOT for you. DONT eat all bran and stuff like that either. EAT rice and greek yoghurt coz that really really helps. believe me i knw. dont eat fruit with skin or spinach. that is for constipatuion ppl and DONT eat prunes either. that is for consipated ppl too and theres not alot u can eat appart frm apples, have pineapple juice diluted in water and greek yogurt and white rice NOT brown rice. brown grains are fibrous. hope i helped.

You should drink plenty of water and also go to the chemist and purchase "Dioralyte Sachets" to replace the minerals you are losing as this condition causes dehydration.
Good Luck.
